Spring is here and with it warmer weather, flowers blooming, and of course, spring cleaning. We’ve put together a 5 day plan to get your home sparkling clean so you can go ahead and enjoy those barbeques and much needed rest and relaxation!
Day 1: Windows
Nothing makes a house feel cleaner then cleaning those windows, inside and out. It’s a dirty job, we know but so worth it! Be sure vacuum those window treatments, clean blinds, and wipe out window jams while you’re at it. Do your curtains really need some TLC – be sure to read the labels before washing, many are dry clean only.
Day 2: Keep, Toss, Donate.
Spring time is a great time to de-clutter your space. Look through any rooms that have gotten out of hand and sort items into 3 boxes: keep, toss, or donate. It’s a good rule of thumb if you haven’t used an item in a year, donate or toss it. Some bigger or nicer items you can give away or even sell, but be disciplined about getting that stuff you are tossing or donating out the door, you’ll be glad you did! Be sure to check sites like: Goodwill or Salvation Army to see if they accept donations drop off locations in Delaware. For toys and kids items consider calling local day cares or preschools.
Day 3: Dust
Ok, most of us dust and clean throughout the year, this time, we’re focusing on those forgotten about areas. Clean out cabinets and drawers and vacuum out. Top of the fridge, behind the fridge, wipe down those walls and ceiling fans, baseboards. Strip down beds and vacuum your mattress and under/behind your bed. Cobwebs – be gone! Make use of those handy attachments on your vacuum for those hard to reach spaces. You’ll be amazed what wiping down some walls and surfaces can do!
Day 4: Kitchen
Now is a great time to clean out the fridge and pantry and toss anything that’s expired or gone bad. Wipe down shelves and vacuum out that pantry. There’s a great assortment of storage containers to help you organize your kitchen space and we’ve got some great tips on our Pinterest page to inspire you!
Day 5: Floors
Last but certainly not least, the floors. Hardwoods need to be swept, mopped, and polished. Don’t forget to wipe down those baseboards. Shake out small area rugs outside. Tiles should be scrubbed, there are a lot of great grout stain removers to make your job a bit easier, or you can steam clean your floors! Do a thorough vacuuming or carpets and rugs (don’t forget under sofa and tables.) Spot treat stains on carpets best you can and then either rent a carpet cleaner machine or hire a professional. Believe me, this is well worth the investment, carpets thought to be way beyond hope can really clean up nice!
So there you have it – you’ve completed spring cleaning in Delaware – and have a clean home in just 5 days. I’m sure there are some things we left out but we’ll save those for another day. For now, congratulate yourself for a job well done and kick back, open up those windows, and enjoy this beautiful spring weather!
