With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we thought for this week’s blog we’d talk about creating that feeling of romance at home.  Why wait for a holiday to make your loved one feel romantic?  Here are some ideas to invite romance into your home and your life everyday.

  1. Soft colors.  A lot of folks associate feminine colors like pink and lavenders with romance, but there are lots of soft colors in the spectrum that can create a relaxing and romantic palette.  Not a fan of pink, try other pastels – peach, light green, blues, creams can really set the mood.
  2. Beautiful things.   Fill your home with things that inspire beauty – flowers, plants, art work that you love.  Whatever you find beautiful and brings pleasure to you.
  3. Flowers, candles, hearts. Where ever you want to put them, they are sure to inspire love!  Don’t forget to romance the all the senses – scented candles and flowers also help create a soothing and relaxing atmosphere.Creating Romance at Home
  4. De-clutter.  One of the things that so nice about getting away from it all with someone you love is well, getting away from it all!  Find cool and creative ways to tuck away mail/bills (a wall organizer perhaps), tuck those toys away (baskets), and clear away nick knacks you no longer want or enjoy.  There is something relaxing and romantic about a room that is calm, organized, and clean.
  5. Romance in the Living Room.  There are lots of cozy living room furniture pieces to create a romantic feel – love seats, chair and ½ oversized chairs.  Don’t forget to warm things up with decorative throw pillows and a nice throw blanket to cuddle up with.  Warm lighting from table lamps, stay away from the harsh over head lighting.   A fun movie to curl up and watch together!
  6. Romance in the Dining Room. Chandeliers and vintage lighting really add warmth and create a romantic tone.  Gauzy table coverings and special treats cooked with love.  Don’t forget the music!
  7. Romance in the Bedroom.  For creating romance in your bedroom, look to hotels and bed and breakfasts for inspiration.  They’ve been setting the mood for years!  Choosing the right bedroom furniture – something that is beautiful and inviting and not overcrowding the room.  Lots of fluffy pillows, blankets, and throws.  Clear out those family pictures and keep in other parts of your home.  Add some flowers or a plant to warm up the space.  Soft and warm lighting or candles work well. Airy, sheer curtains are a nice touch. Perhaps it’s time to shop for a new mattress and pillows to really give you that peaceful retreat!
  8. Romance in the Bathroom?  Yes, again think of your favorite places you have stayed – what made you feel relaxed and romantic?  Keep it clean, de-cluttered, and don’t forget those finishing touches – candles, nice plush towels, bath salts, or fun flower shaped soaps.

It doesn’t have to be expensive or difficult to create romance at home. Romance is all about love, so think of what you love, and you’ll find your inspiration.

Happy Decorating!
