It’s been nearly two weeks since Hurricane Sandy swept across the East Coast leaving a path of destruction in Delaware, New Jersey, and New York.  Now the focus is on relief efforts and working to rebuild our communities.  Many folks have lost loved ones, their homes, their communities.  We continue to keep those affected in our prayers and are doing what we can to support efforts to help those impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

Amrican Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief

Here are some ways to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy:

  1. Donate Money.   Consider making a monetary donation to the American Red Cross.
  2. Donate Items.  Many local organizations (i.e. churches, schools, gyms, etc) are collecting food and clothing items for those impacted by Hurricane Sandy.  Some organizations are focusing more on first aid supplies, cleaning products, and toiletries – be sure to check listing of what donations are being accepted where.  The Delaware River Port Community is holding a drive going on this Saturday, November 17th between 8am and 5pm at the Riverfront Chase Center.
  3. Donate Your Time.  Delaware State Parks is looking for volunteers to help clean up storm ravaged areas.  The National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) is another great resource for volunteer opportunities.
  4. Donate Blood.  Hurricane Sandy with power outages and destruction left in its wake a shortage of blood.  Consider donating blood or helping with a local blood drive effort.  Click HERE to learn more about donations opportunities through Delmarva Blood Bank.
  5. Donate Food.  Help restock your local food pantry.  Click HERE to see collections from Food Bank of Delaware.

Stay tuned for more local efforts in the news.  There is a group of folks in New Jersey organizing to help the youngest people affected by Hurricane Sandy with Santa’s Hurricane Helpers.  They are collecting toys and gifts to help the youngest victims of Hurricane Sandy have the Christmas they deserve.

We at Urban Furniture Outlet are committed to helping with these efforts to recover and are looking at more ways we can assist these communities.  Together we can make a difference and help these local communities rebuild and recover.
