Stress Free Holiday Entertaining

We love this time of year! There is a twinkle in children’s eyes, lots of baking, gift giving, and love. There is also stress! A hundred to do’s added to your every day to do list. The holidays are meant to be enjoyed, and that means by YOU too! We have some tips to help make your holiday special, memorable, and hopefully stress free.

  1. Plan ahead. A lot of stress is caused by procrastinating and doing things last minute. So, if you can do things ahead, do that. If your event is tonight and it’s too late, take a breath. It’s the holidays, things don’t need to be perfect, they can be pretty good. The most important things rise to the surface.
  2. Keep it simple. This goes for menus, decor, celebrations. Do you well. If you love sending cards, send cards. If you don’t, cut it out or cut back. Scale back your expectations to be special and you, but also manageable with all else happening in your life. You’ll save yourself money, time and stress by focusing on the bigger things and cutting out the extras that maybe are nice but not needed.
  3. Meal and menu planning. Take advantage of premade meals and short cuts, they help this time of year. Consider potlucks to take some of the to do’s off your list.
  4. Ask for help. Don’t be afraid to ask or receive help, whether it’s asking your sibling for gift ideas for dad, or a friend to drive your kid home. We’re all busy, we all get it. Helping each other out and supporting one another in this life is what it’s all about.
  5. Clean & declutter. This seems like it wouldn’t help with stress – but it does. Can’t tell you how much time is wasted looking for things or doing double work because the house and everything is a mess. A moment to get things cleaned up, organized reduces stress and in the end, saves you time.
  6. Take time for you. Finally, but no less important – take time to take in the season. Whether it’s a special mocha peppermint latte or a long call with a friend, do what fills your heart and makes you ‘feel the feels’ of the season. Watch an old movie, look through photos. You don’t have to spend money to treat yourself to a trip down memory lane.
