I know what you’re thinking – what does my child’s room have to do with school starting? Well actually, a lot! Not to overwhelm you, as a parent, I know school time brings lots of ‘to do’ lists – school clothes, shoes, supplies, the lists are exhausting! A room that is clean, organized, and well lit will offer the perfect spot to get focused and ready for learning as well as unplug and get the good night’s rest they need for the next school day. Here are back to school tips for getting your child’s room ready for the year and help them get off to a great start.
Back to School
1. Clean up & De Clutter – Now is a great time to go through old toys, books, and clothes and make room for the new. Talk to friends, family, or anyone you think can take unwanted things off your hands. No luck, donate to Goodwill or another charity, it can be a great lesson for your child in generosity and helping others.

2. Storage & Organization – Now that you’ve decided what stays, what goes – take a look at what your child frequently uses. Make these things easy to get to and easy to put away. Storage bins, crates, or baskets are very affordable and a great way to tidy up a room without breaking the budget. Enlist your child in choosing the colors and styles for the storage units, if they like the look they’ll be more likely to help keep things clean! Still need more storage? We can help you find a chest or bookcase that offer lots of storage and since they tend to be narrower than a dresser, they can easily fit in most rooms.   Under bed storage units is another great option.

3. Lighting – If you’re counting on your child using their room for more than just sleeping, lighting is critical. Give thought to an extra floor lamp on table lamp for the desk or bedside.

4. Fun Little Extras – Ok, we got the big stuff done, now for the fun little things. A cork board or dry erase bulletin board is a great way for your child to keep track of appointments, due dates, and projects. How about a cozy floor pillow or chair to curl up and study in?

Whatever you choose, the back to school tips will help make your child’s room a place they love pays off. Wishing you and your children a happy and successful school year!
