The holidays are upon us and it’s time to break out the decorations! I don’t know about you, but as much as I love decorating, the task can be overwhelming and expensive! So we have searched the internet for some great ideas for you and your family to decorate your home for LESS this season! We at Urban Furniture Outlet love saving our customers money on furniture and mattresses in Delaware and thought you’d love some of these creative and budget-friendly decor ideas for decorating your home! Have fun with decorating – some of these ideas can even be applied to family rooms, dining rooms, even kitchens. Enjoy!!
- Candles. Candles add something special to any meal – here are some fun ideas. Mason jars – put a tea candle, wrap a pretty ribbon around the top and light up. Or put a votive candle in and surround with something festive like dried cranberries, nuts, or corn kernels. You can find hurricane candle holders at any arts & crafts store and apply the same filler ideas.
- Place Card Holders. There a lot of cute ideas on sites like Pinterest for fun place card holders. One of my favorites was using a pine cone to hold the card. Some ideas included letting kids help you turn your pine cones into turkeys! Check out our Pinterest page to learn how to make a ‘Turkey Place Card Holder’. These are a great way to add something special to your dining table. Don’t want place cards – you could be creative and write a conversation starter for place settings like ‘What I’m Most Thankful for This Year…”.

- Flowers. Flowers are timeless and add lots of color to your table spread. I like to get a cheaper bouquet and use small glass candle holders I got from a craft store and cut the buds low so my guests can see each other at the dining table rather than have the flowers take up too much room. This also saves you some $$ on flowers since you don’t need too many to get a great look. Add in some small votive candles and you’ve got a great look.
- Branches/Leaves. Another idea is to look around your yard for inspiration. Using some evergreen swags or dried leaves in vibrant colors can really add some seasonal beauty. Enlist the kids for help, have them pick out their favorite leaves and place a few on the table to add some color and décor! Click here for some more ideas!
- Kid’s Stuff. Here’s a great rainy day activity – make an ‘I am Thankful’ chain of garland to hang from your steps, window sill or doorway. Most of us remember these from school – they are just as easy as you remember. Just cut up some strips of construction paper about an inch thick, a few inches long. Have kids write what they are thankful for (you can too!) and tape into a circle (writing on outside.) Then loop in the next strip and staple and so on till you have a nice chain. Guests will enjoy reading about what your family is thankful for, it’s a great activity to focus all on what is really important.
Decorating for the holidays can be lots of fun and doesn’t have to cost you a bundle. Be sure to visit our page on Pinterest and check out our new ‘Holiday Ideas’ board for more décor ideas!
We hope you enjoy your holiday from your friends at Urban Furniture Outlet.
